Unplanned Pregnancy and Abortion
The unintended or unplanned pregnancy and abortion rate is very high in India as well as worldwide. The women aged 15-49 in India have a rate of 70 per 1,000 women who face unintended pregnancy and abortion. Lack of information about contraception or irresponsibility in preventing pregnancy is the main cause of the rising unplanned pregnancy and abortion rates. Therefore, responsible use of contraceptives can greatly help in preventing unwanted pregnancies, abortions and complications.
Termination of pregnancy (TOP) or Abortion
This is the removal of the product of pregnancy, the fetus and placenta (after birth), from the uterus. The terms fetus and placenta are commonly used after the 8th week of gestation, but other terms refer to the tissue formed by the union of the egg and sperm before the 8th week.
The most common reason for spontaneous abortion of pregnancy is unwanted or unwanted pregnancy. Baby malformations that are incompatible with life are also medically indicated reasons for abortion.
The legal limit of termination in India – According to the Indian MTP Act, it is illegal to have an abortion for more than 20 weeks of gestation. This is currently under consideration and is subject to change soon.
